This Electric Silver Volvo XC90 received an Enhancement Detail (The Boost) + protection upgrades including:
The first step of the process is cleaning the wheels and underbody of the vehicle. These are the dirtiest areas requiring specific tools and chemicals so it is important to clean these areas first in order to avoid re-contaminating the rest of the vehicle later on. The wheel wells and underbody are carefully sprayed using high pressure water as well as agitated where accessible. The wheels are decontaminated using a high grade wheel cleaner + pH neutral wheel soap ensuring any accumulation of iron deposits and brake dust are safely removed from the wheel faces and barrels.
After the wheels and underbody have been decontaminated, we cover the vehicle with a dense foam to help loosen larger debris as well as reducing the chances of inflicting swirls. Here we are using a citrus wash that has enough cleaning power to effectively remove surface contaminants as well as any previous sealant/wax while still being gentle enough to use on all surfaces. While the vehicle is covered in foam we use a boar hair brush on all of the exterior crevices that would otherwise be unreachable using just a wash mitt. This ensures every surface is properly cleansed. After rinsing the foam off, the next step is washing the vehicle from top to bottom using the two bucket method; 1 bucket for water+suds and 1 bucket for rinsing the wash mitt.
Moving onto the chemical and mechanical decontamination where we ensure that all iron, tar and stuck-on particles are safely pulled out of the clear coat. Think of this stage like gently exfoliating your skin. We are removing the last of the stubborn dirt that is embeded into the paint that a normal wash will not remove. This stage begins with a chemical decontamination which effectively ‘melts’ the majority of the iron and tar. This is followed by a mechanical decontamination using a clay bar which removes any above surface bonded particulate that was not removed by the chemical fallout removers.
After the paint had been Decontaminated, it was time to Protect it. The owner of this XC90 opted for our premium paint sealant, Gtechniq’s Liquid Crystal sealant which provides: Superior Gloss Slickness UV Protection Excellent Water Repellency and Ease of maintenance.
In addition to the paint protection, the plastic trim, glass, leather and interior hard surfaces were also coated with the Gtehniq product-line.
The plastic trim, which was plentiful on this Sweedish beast, was coated with Getchniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer. C4 chemically bonds to the plastic providing a true satin black appearance as well as protects it from UV and sun fading for up to 2 years.
The glass was coated using Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass. The glass coating creates a durable transparent layer over the glass providing ultra-hydrophobic properties. With this coating, water beads on the surface of the glass as opposed to sheeting which provides significantly improved visibility in wet weather at low-speed and at speed the water will simply run right off the glass requiring minimal to no windshield wiper use.
The leather surfaces, including the seats, steering wheel and shifter were deep cleaned in order to return the original supple matte finish and then coated using Gtechniq’s L1 Leather Guard to lock-in the appearance as well as provide a layer of protection. L1 Leather Guard forms a durable abrasion resistant matte finish which offers protection against abrasion damage, UV rays, dye transfer and other discolouration. With added BioCote® antimicrobial technology, treated surfaces will kill 99.9% of bacteria.
Similarly to the leather surfaces, the non-leather surfaces including the dashboard, door cards and center console were deep cleaned and coated using Gtechniq’s C6 matte dash. C6 adds abrasion resistance, dirt, water, static and UV repellency to treated surfaces. It will not affect the gloss and leaves a natural feel. With added BioCote® antimicrobial technology, treated surfaces will kill 99.9% of bacteria.
